He heard another sound, something that was not water. It was a woman’s voice. Her strong yet feminine tone rang strangely familiar to his ears. At that moment, Dr Frank’s harsh commands floated into his head. ‘You are to fight. These are enemies. They wish to kill you.’
He braced himself, flexing his arms as they were released from the shackles he had been held in. He was strong. He could feel the new power coursing through his veins, preparing him for battle. The doors swung open. This is it. He stepped out.
Hundreds of them appeared before their eyes. The corridor was suddenly filled with people. Aria caught sight of a familiar mop of curly brown hair. Joy rushed through her body and she ran towards him. ‘TOMMY!’ She shrieked, her arms outstretched.
He pushed her away, a look of disgust evident on his handsome albeit drawn features. ‘You shall not kill me so easily.’ He growled at her like an untamed beast. Startled, Aria took a step back. ‘You don’t remember me?’ He held his arms before him, ready to fend off an attack. ‘I’m not going to hurt you.’ She whispered, her tone betraying her hurt feelings.
‘Attack!’ Dr Frank commanded, furious. Tommy lunged at her, his arms trying to get a hold on her. She dodged easily. ‘Tommy?’ She tried again. ‘It’s me. Aria. Remember?’ She stepped forward. Tommy stopped. His dark eyes clouded in confusion. The name Aria was a familiar syllable to his lips. ‘Aria?’ He repeated.
‘It’s time to come home Tommy.’ She leaned in for a kiss as the images came flooding back, memories retold themselves and the cords binding him to Dr Frank’s controls shattered. ‘Aria.’ He whispered, confident that this was real. That she was safe in his arms at last.
author's note: the photograph is not one of Aria and Tommy but it, to me, expresses the sweetness of their reunion almost perfectly :)
